SCENIC FLIGHT NO 5 - CITY AND ISLANDS SCENIC
The City and Islands scenic starts at Townsville airport with a full safety
brief and a brief on the aircraft and its history and what it can do.
We then depart the runway and airport environment and turn north towards Many Peaks and the 'Golf Ball' (actually it's the Air Traffic Control radar), or if we are on the southern runway, we turn towards the mouth of the Bohle River, before we track towards Rattlesnake Island and then to Palm Island.
We pass the village on Palm Island and see key military sites there before we track along the north face of the island and then back towards Magnetic Island, in particular towards West Point. A cruise at 500' along the beautiful northern shore of the island takes us past Horseshoe Bay and past Nelly Bay and Arcadia.
Leaving the island we track south towards Townsville again towards Kissing Point and The Strand taking the sights of North Ward, the beaches, Yarrawonga and the face of Castle Hill.
Then a cruise over the Townsville port and the city we then track towards Cluden and past Lavarack Barracks and Mt Stuart. We pass by the University and Hospital over the Ross River and the Riverway Area, over Dairy Farmer's Stadium and then towards the Bohle before passing south of Mt Louisa and in for a landing back at the airport.
