The Battle of Baiji (or Bayji) was a battle in Iraq centred on the town of Baiji and the nearby refinery, the largest in Iraq. During the battle, which lasted for the better part of a year, Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) had occupied the area during its spread of influence and coalition forces were determined to wrest control from the terrorists. The ground war was predominantly fought by Iraqi security forces with air support provided by US, British, French and Australian Air Forces.
