One of my favourite artists was Margaret
Preston. She became well known for her woodblock prints where a block of
wood is carved with an image and the raised areas of the carving is inked
and paper pressed against the wood leaving an ink outline. This is either
left as is or is then painted by hand.
Using the same technique, I carved out this image of a typical house in
Queensland - known as a Queenslander - depicting the house and the large
limestone formation known as Castle Hill, which dominates the town of
