Who am I? I am the director of IPAS Australia and its lead trainer and facilitator. I have been training in CRM for over 20 years in the Australian Defence Force and in civilian settings. I am a former military helicopter pilot, civilian Helicopter Air Transport Pilot licence holder and fixed wing commercial pilot as well as a published author and writer, keen historian, vexilologist, public speaker, podcaster and commercial/military artist. I am married with two sons and live on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland. To see my resume, CLICK HERE to go to my LinkedIn profile.
I spent 15 years flying helicopters for the Australian Army and another ten flying my own aircraft or working for charter firms, powerline companies, airborne law enforcement, EMS, and other jobs providing aviation services.I have a blemish free record in aviation and understand how difficult it is to operate a viable business in the industry. That's why my mantra is "Safety and Efficiency". Being safe and being efficient means saving lives, saving equipment and saving money. ALL my training is geared towards safety and efficiency so your organisation can get on with the job.
I drew a picture when I was in the US training on Chinooks which started a demand for my artwork. Almost 30 years later I have been lucky to have created hundreds of pieces that have won competitions and sit in the collections of Prime Ministers and politicians, Generals and soldiers as well as hundreds of ordinary folk who like my art. I was fortunate to be appointed the Australian Army's Official War Artist by the Chief of Army and, later, the Royal Australian Air Force's Official War Artist, also. CLICK HERE to see my artwork.
After a day and a half of theory, including Working Safely Around Aircraft and Low Level Flying in a Hazard Environment, teams are given a task to do in the aircraft. They have to conduct some flight planning, brief each other, demonstrate to the instructor safe approach and boarding a helicopter, brief the pilot and then conduct the task. This is the final assessment in the Working Safely Around Aircraft training package that includes CRM/TRM and Human Factors. Enjoy!
A client requested a specific exercise be created that reflected their type of operation, but that used all the required administration, planning tools and paperwork expected of the task. This was in response to a known problem area within the organisation with regard to proper planning, risk management and record making/record keeping. The result was Exercise Hopper. Just one example of working closely with the client to make our aviation training courses specific to their needs.
